The Avet MX series offers medium-sized, high-performance reels that bridge the gap between small inshore and large offshore gear. The primary distinction between models lies in the spool width (MXJ for Narrow, MXL for Wide) and the inclusion of Magic Cast (MC), a magnetic braking system that manages spool speed to prevent backlashes during casting.

Avet MXJ vs. MXL Raptor (Spool Width)

  • Avet MXJ Raptor (Narrow): Designed for vertical jigging and lure casting. The narrow spool (1 9/16") makes line leveling with your thumb much easier during retrieves and reduces spool mass for better casting of lighter baits.

  • Avet MXL Raptor (Wide): A versatile "all-around" powerhouse suitable for live bait, bottom fishing, or chunking. It offers significantly more line capacity—up to 600-650 yards of 50lb braid compared to the MXJ's 400-470 yards.

Magic Cast (MC) vs. Non-MC

  • MC (Magic Cast) Models: Feature a patented 5-setting magnetic knob that "feathers" the spool automatically. This is ideal for casting in high-pressure situations, such as pitching boats or night fishing, as it reduces the need for manual thumb pressure to prevent bird nests.

  • Non-MC Models: Built for experienced anglers who prefer a "hands-on" approach. These reels lack magnetic braking, providing the absolute maximum free-spool duration but requiring an "educated thumb" to prevent overruns during a cast.
